more music (wavetable to expander)

Sometimes you get something for cheap and you don't know what it is. It looks expensive and it has some chips on it, with a well known brand in my case the brand was KORG. Long time before google could find specific data based on chip labels, way longer before google could search by provided image, you had to send a picture to the manufacturer and hope someone will answer. In my case, I've contacted KORG germany and got an answer I just nearly forgot: What you have in your hands is one of the rare original wavetable add-on cards for the creative!soundblaster sound cards. We only made a few and later on, we stopped and trust took over, but without the ROM chips. Basically it's a X3R heart. My sound card didn't have the the right connector so I couldn't use it, but I had my synthesizer/keyboard and software wavetable worked also very good. Years later, in a computer magazine, they showed a circuitree to use wavetable extension boards as General MIDI (GM) devices you can connect your MIDI controller (like KORG miniKey or AKPI mpk mini). At this time I wasn't sure if I ever could make use of this board and how to get the carrier board running (most cards seem to use +12V/-12V and 5V or 9V), and at one time I've had a major data loss and lost the plan to build it.

But with today's possibilities and large amount of informations online, in combination with AI (CLAUDE again), you can get the board running in minutes. And if it is the heart of an X3R, it's not just GM, it's so much more! Not everything is documented and the possibilities are yet to discover, and to see what I do, I asked CLAUDE to add a screen and of course an ESP32 - hey, it's 2026 and most of the MIDI controllers use USB to communicate and as I have the USB 2.0 mini shield laying around and don't want to buy some 5-pin DIN sockets (but leave the option!). Not build or tested, i guess it's going to be great. https://github.com/km-coded/Korg-Ai20-MIDI-expander
